The 1962 FIFA World Cup group stage match between hosts Chile and Italy, which was played in Santiago, was dubbed "The Battle of Santiago" because of how violent it was. Chile won the game 2-0.
He approached FIFA with his idea of yellow and red cards and they were first used at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico as trials, before they were officially adopted into the Rules of the Game.
