The Absolute Insanity of the Election of 1800...

As the day of February 15th, 1801 drew to a close, America would breathe a sigh of relief. An election that had captivated the nation for three months had finally been concluded. The Electoral College had resulted in a tie, handing the job of electing the president to the bitterly divided House of Representatives. Thirty-five ballots had been cast in the House, and each yielded the same result, a tie. Neither side agreed to compromise. Threats of civil war broke out, and state governors threatened to march with their militias and even secede if the election did not go their way. In the end, one man would reluctantly make a decision that would decide the fate of the election, as well as the nation.
