'Is THIS Woman Madeleine McCann?'

This 21-year-old Polish woman is going viral on social media for claiming to be the missing British girl - Madeleine McCann.

Julia Wandelt, has been using social media to try and get in touch with Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry. She’s posting on TikTok and this Instagram page, called @iammadeleinemcann, which has grown rapidly to 36,000 followers in the last couple of days. She wants a DNA test to find out if she’s the girl who has been missing for 16 years.

Julia claims she has a freckle on her leg and a speck in her eye, in the same places as Madeleine, and posts pictures of herself next to the McCann family, claiming they look alike.

Madeleine - who disappeared from her holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007, when she was three years old - would be 19 now. But Julia says she’s 21 but that she feels her age could be wrong.

Julia has also shared her traumatic personal history online - telling her followers that she doesn’t remember her childhood and that she was the “victim of a German paedophile”.

In one Instagram post, Julia shared this image, which she says is a sketch of a wanted man in connection with Madeleine's disappearance. She says this man looks “very similar to my abuser”.

Social media users are weighing in - commenting on whether they think she could be the missing girl. While some point out similarities between the two, and support her desire for a DNA test, others are accusing her of using the missing person case as a bid for fame.

A source close to the McCanns told The Mirror that they’re “willing to look at all leads” and “The girl does look similar. There’s no disputing that.”
“If what she says is true, there is every chance it could be her.”

But, Francisco Marco - a private detective who led the hunt for the missing girl in the months after her disappearance - has told a Spanish newspaper that Julia’s story doesn’t add up, and that he doesn’t think she’s Madeleine’s.
