This is an audio recording of a 3 hour+ session with Eubie Blake commenting on his own piano rolls played to him by Mike Montgomery. The recordings that I have are in the form of 3 CD's divided into about 12 tracks per CD along with liner notes including descriptions for each track, which are reproduced below and tied to timestamps in the video. The liner notes attached to the recordings reads as follows:
"On May 5, 1972 Eubie Blake came to the home of Mike Montgomery in Detroit, Michigan. Mike was a world reknowned authority on the history of American piano rolls and had quite a collection of player pianos and rolls. By the time this event took place Mike had already produced a series of piano roll LP albums for Historical Records.
The purpose of the day was to play all of Eubie Blake's piano rolls for Eubie Blake, who had never listened to his own rolls since they were recorded between 1918 and 1924. Any information provided by Eubie would then be used in the process of compiling an album for Historical.
Also in the room that day was Jim Taylor who was recording the entire proceeding and myself. Jim Taylor made a few comments from time to time. I only uttered one sentence during the entire 3+ hours. I was there to listen and learn.
The afternoon was a treasure trove to say the least. I have listened to these tapes many times in the years since. It is one of the most fascinating, entertaining and instructive things I have ever heard. Eubie recorded a double album of himself talking and playing for Columbia records, but this session beats that one in my opinion.
Eubie not only listens and comments but can't resist the urge to sit down and play once in awhile.
I think Eubie Blake was 89 years old at the time of this project. He lived until 5 days past his 100th birthday.*

Incidentally, the photo shown is of Eubie at my family's home in Detroit but from a different visit (not sure when.)
