This Episode of Zone 3 Podcast we are joined again by Matthew Hayes BSRT (R) (MR) (CT) ARRT, to discuss Diffusion weighted Imaging (DWI) and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI).
Most commonly diffusion weighted imaging is used to diagnose stroke in patients presented with qualifying factors. The theory of diffusion was originally thought of by a botanist Robert Brown know as "Brownian Motion". He explained randomized water motion throughout all living things.
Inside diffusion, we are playing a game where were losing signal on purpose with the water that is moving while only obtaining signal for the water holding still. In some cases water restriction can be indicative of pathology i.e.. Stroke/TIA.
Matt is great at explaining diffusion imaging and the purpose behind it. With his simplistic terms and visual aids, he can explain it in terms that entry level techs to 30+ year veteran techs can grasp in ways not before.
About our Guest:
Matthew Hayes BSRT (R) (MR) (CT), ARRT an highly motivated individual with over 20 year of experience in the field of Radiology. Strong educational background and passion addressing challenges in all things MRI through invention, innovation, friendships and meaningful work. 10+ years as an educator. Life-long learner. President /creator of ScanLab and ImagingU. Professor of MRI at the Advent Health University.
About our Sponsor:
Aegys is an innovative leader in the MRI safety industry and the Creator of The TechGate Automatic.
Aegys is committed to providing innovative product and process solutions that enhance overall magnet safety and improve efficiency. TechGate Auto is a Zone 4 Barrier System that keeps patients and MRI technologists safe. TechGate Auto allows technologists to focus on the care of patients and efficient room turnaround rather than worrying about anyone entering the MRI room behind them. Easy to use and designed for the MRI environment, TechGate Auto is deployed whenever the technologist enters or leaves the MR room or via push button remote control, providing an immediate physical restriction of access to all unauthorized individuals.
The use of a “caution” barrier at the entrance to the MR room is now a recommendation of the American College of Radiology MR Safety Committee.
