Chinese Music from the Tang Dynasty 《中國唐樂》 (c. 1990)

"Chinese Music from the Tang Dynasty" 《中國唐樂》, a cassette containing recordings of 20 pieces of Tang Dynasty-era yanyue (燕乐 / 宴乐, court banquet/entertainment music), reconstructed from Chinese and Sino-Japanese sources by Chen Yingshi (陈应时, 1933-2020), a noted expert on the subject of Tang music, and longtime professor of musicology at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, as well as by members of the Tang Music Project: Laurence Picken, Rembrandt Wolpert, Allan Marett, Jonathan Condit, and Elizabeth Markham.

The music was performed by the Shanghai Chinese Ancient Music Ensemble (Shanghai Zhongguo Guyuetuan, 上海中国古乐团), and the recordings were made in Shanghai, China in December 1988. The dizi solos were performed by the great Yu Xunfa (俞逊发, 1946-2006), and the pipa solos were played by Yu Ling (俞岭). The female vocal solos were sung by Shen Dehao (沈德皓).

Produced by Concept Music Studio (觀念音樂製作所) and published by Crystal Records (水晶有聲出版社), Taipei, Taiwan in 1989 or 1990 (recording no. GN-8902).
