Some Dutch people revolted against their Lord, King Felipe II of Spain, and started a war. Eventually, seven rebel states united and kicked their Lord out. Some wanted to replace him with a French Prince, others with Prince Willem of Orange. Both Princes died in 1584, and King Felipe believed everything would return to normal. However, the Dutch continued their disobedience, but they really needed a sovereign to rule them.
