Champions of the USSR | USSR Football Championship Winners 1936 - 1991

The USSR Premier League in football - the top division of the USSR football championship, in which the championship among the best football teams of the Soviet Union was held annually.

In the highest division of Soviet football (which changed its name in the course of history), teams from all union republics, with the exception of Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, played in different years. In the entire history of the event, 11 clubs from eight cities of five union republics (Ukrainian, Russian, Armenian, Georgian and Belarusian) became champions.

From 1936 to 1991, 54 USSR football championships were held. In 1941, the USSR football championship was not completed. From 1942 to 1944, the USSR football championship was not held. In 1936 and 1976, the USSR football championship was held twice (in spring and autumn).
The highest division, in which the title of USSR football champion was played from 1936 (spring) to 1940, was called Group A, from 1945 to 1949 - the First Group, from 1950 to 1962 - Class A, from 1963 to 1969 - The first group of Class “A”, in 1970 - the Highest Group of Class “A”, from 1971 to 1991 - the Major League.
