Extinct Animals Lost to History Due to Human Activity

Which animals have gone extinct because of human influence, whether through pollution, hunting, or habitat destruction? We've described some of the most notable losses, from 1000-1200 A.D., when humans first reached new islands, to the most recent extinct animals in the last 10 years! The lone George died without a pair in 2012, and horn clipping led to the disappearance of the western black rhino in 2011. It seems that lately, it is becoming more and more common to see animals go extinct due to human error. Check out photos and drawings of the amazing animals we've lost to recent extinctions, from the quagga to the western black rhino.
