Bodycam DUI Arrest - 20-Year-Old College Student Admits to Drinking 4 Beers in 20 Minutes

On August 26, 2023, Pullman Police Officer Westerman observed a vehicle traveling without headlights on. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and asks the 20-year-old female driver if she had consumed any alcohol. When she immediately denies consuming anything, he proceeds to perform the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test while she is still seated in the vehicle. He questions her truthfulness and asks her to submit to a preliminary breath test. She agrees to blow into the portable breathalyzer and the result is 0.170% BAC. She is asked to step out of the vehicle to perform voluntary standardized field sobriety tests (FSTs), which she refuses. She is immediately arrested for DUI and transported to the Pullman Police Station. At the police station, she admits to consuming 4 beers in 20 minutes. She then submits to an evidentiary breath test (EBT) which also results in a 0.170% BAC reading. Her criminal case is still open. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
