Gates — speaking lucidly and calmly, like a varsity basketball coach intent on teaching you the best way to live off the court — dropped pearls of wisdom. For example: “Whenever you’re being honest with yourself, you’re focused on existing.” Although this segment is proof that Gates is a solid character actor, there is a level of genuineness that stems from a new lifestyle following extended stints behind bars.
